Closing the gender gap in mental health

Women experience depression, anxiety, and trauma to a greater extent than men. And yet women’s mental health is under diagnosed, underfunded and under researched. The vast majority of medical research has been conducted on men — even male lab mice can outnumber female mice five to one. On top of this, women in science face biases that men do not as they work to advance their careers. We must bring more equity to mental health care.

We need to talk: Erasing the stigma around mental health

Growing up, my family never really talked about what was going on with my brother. We knew he was sick. We knew it wasn’t his fault. But it was kept quiet. It would take until David was in his 30s to get a proper diagnosis of schizophrenia and get the antipsychotic medication he desperately needed. Today I’m talking about mental health. Many of us are. It’s what we need to do.
